5 ways to be an ally. Let’s do this. Here are my five tips for being a good ally. 1. Understand your privilege. A lot of people get hung on the word privilege, so let me break it down for you nice and easy. Privilege does not mean that you are rich, that you’ve had an easy life, that everything’s been handed to you, and you’ve never had to struggle or work hard.

2. Listen and learn. One of the most impactful ways to be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community is to listen and learn from their lived experiences.Each person's journey is a unique tapestry of challenges, triumphs, and self-discovery, and by taking the time to listen, you can gain valuable insights into the complexities of LGBTQ+ lives.

4) Be open to changing your perspective. As mentioned above, the experiences within the LGBTQ+ community are unique and constantly evolving. As such, being an ally means having a continued openness to adapt and evolve as well. Understand that allyship isn’t about being “right.”.2. Be a Friend, Not an Investigator.
